We are delighted to have author and former Editor-in-Chief of Life Magazine, Bill Shapiro, facilitating an illuminating conversation with photographer and writer Melissa Breyer. This program will touch on contemporary street photography, women in street photography, publishing photography books, and working with editors.
Melissa Breyer is a photographer and writer specializing in street photography. Breyer’s work has been exhibited across the globe and has been featured in national and international publications, including National Geographic, The New York Times, and numerous compendiums. She authored the essay for the book Women Street Photographers (Prestel, 2021) — her own photo book, Metropolis, was published by Peanut Press in 2020.

Bill Shapiro is the former Editor-in-Chief of LIFE magazine; he was also the founding Editor-in-Chief of LIFE.com, which won the 2011 National Magazine Award for digital photography. Bill is the author of several books, among them Gus & Me, the best-selling children’s book he co-wrote with Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. In 2018, he published What We Keep. He's written about photography for the New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, the Atlantic, Vogue, Esquire, the Los Angeles Times, among others.
