Join us for a movie and conversation Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 7:00 pm (PT). We will be screening The Bang Bang Club, by director Steven Silva (2010) in the newly renovated Ahmanson Auditorium at ArtCenter College of Design.
“The Bang Bang Club”, directed by Steven Silva, follows a group of four photographers, two of which became Pulitzer winners, during the early 1990s in South Africa during a three-way conflict between the apartheid South African government, Nelson Mandela's African National Congress and the Zulu Inkatha movement. This film addresses the thrills, dangers, and humanitarian concerns that combat journalist are confronted with. A conversational worthy film that raises the question stated by Greg Marinovich, member of the Bang Bang Club, "We discovered that one of the strongest links among us was questions about the morality of what we do: when do you press the shutter release and when do you cease being a photographer?"
Discussion following the screening led by Ken Marchionno, Interim Chair.
